NOTE: Do not read this if you have not watched City Hunter (Korean drama). Because, it will lead to confusion. Moreover, you cannot understand or relate to everything I wrote in this blog entry. You don't like spoilers, right? —————————————————————————————————
City hunter is a really good drama. Although it talks about revenge, but ‘bloody revenge’ is something the protagonist discourages. Well if you will base on the protagonist side, for me, its mission was not really to take revenge but to solve the problem of the society. (That revenge for me is really something a side dish only.) Coincidentally, the five men with whom the revenge must be addressed to were the headache of the society. The protagonist’s goal is to promote equality, peace, and justice.
City Hunter is based on the manga with the same title. Although it received some not-so-good comments being an adaptation which has a story far from the the real manga, but for me, it is still okay. If it’s not, then the writer must complain earlier. [lols] Plus, there are lots of adaptation (animated) base from the said manga and those were not really the same with the manga. (see my other blog entry for my adaptation insight)
What I don’t like about the drama is the ending part! (I know we share the same feelings, right?) It seems that the ending part was in a hurry. (Was it really was?) I even think maybe the staff cuts some scenes to make it shorter because they were given a time-range. (that was my hypothesis) The ending also confuses me for few seconds cause I really thought Nana was just imagining Yun Seung’s presence. The scene where Nana and Yun Seung just smile at each other makes me us dissatisfied! It gives us a “That’s-it-only?” expression. The viewers are expecting heart-melting moments. (but NOT heavy-moments!) If I can still suggest, it would be good if that scene was prolonged. That was really short. It was only a few seconds. The part City Hunter was driving his car in the busy city was really good. It’s just that it must also be prolonged a little bit to make more emphasis.
SUGGESTED ENDING PART FOR YUN SEUNG & NA NA
For me, these two scenes can be an option (just try to imagine it. hehey): (1) Nana was walking with her luggage and the two of them will meet, Yun Seung will give a necklace with the ‘ring’ pendant to Nana and they will hug each other for like six seconds and Yun Seung will kiss Nana’s forehead and the camera will slowly zooms out. (That would be ok even without a dialogue, pure music background only) Or they can have it like this: (2) Nana will be walking with her luggage and she will see Yun Seung but Yun Seung disappeared. She will hear a familiar voice saying, “Hey, Bear Nana,” Nana will be surprised and she will look around for Yun Sung again and she will look back. She will see Yun Seung. She will pause, and smile and Yun Seung will walk towards her and hug her tightly. And then, they will walk together. Yun Seung will carry the luggage that Nana was bringing with his right hand and his other hand will hold Nana’s hand. That was short but it will be satisfying and more heart-melting minus the over-acting part.
The story was really enough for me, but because the ending was ‘hanging’, it makes me support having its sequel (part2.part2). Haha. But it would be good if it still something related to its original source which is the manga.
POPPED QUESTIONS
My question is that what happened to the chemicals that City Hunter got from the leukemia-causing company?( or what you call that) or maybe further details wasn’t given since the owner of that company was already killed. My other question is : Does Soo Hee already know or have an initial guess that Yun Seung was the city hunter? (because she did not wonder why and where Yun Seung got those wounds) Well, hehe, those questions were just suddenly popped in my head. So I think, viewers are given assignments to analyze the story. So I think, the Soo Hee really knows at first the identity of City Hunter.
CONGRATS!
The plot, storyline/dialogue, OST, concept, casting, and setting are the drama’s pros. It just that the ending part is ‘bitin’. But it’s still okay. I have been watching Asian TV-series for years already and the last time I added something on my favorite was like two years ago but now, I have a new entry for my TV-series fave-list. [This one!] This is really worth-watching for. The concept is no pucho-pucho. (if you understand that Vice Ganda language.lol) Anyway, I say: kudos to the staff and actors of this drama who professionally work hard for this action-series. Thanks also to the writer of the manga. An appreciation is worth-giving to all of you. (after seeing the bts, and the hardwork of making an action show)
